The following files are for press and other interested parties. This information provides the background and arguments regarding the positive benefits of closure of institutions for individuals with disabilities. Opponents use ad hominem attacks and are unable to reference a range of national studies and supporters. These items show the wide support of our position. More importantly, one of the reasons that institutions remain open is that the general public believes that "some" persons with disabilities can NOT be supported in the community. This is perpetuated by some media reports of institution closures which may be presented as a "David-Goliath" story, primarily focused on goverment vs. the sole state institution parents group. Such stories neglect to mention advocates who support closure, the plight of wait lists for community services and the connection between these issues.
